Gönen river which is in the south of the Sea of Marmara has a catchment area of 1402 km2. Its length is 134 km. from source to the mouth Climate, geological features of the earth, geomorphology, natural vegetation and man are the affecting factors on the regime of the Gönen river. The action of the running waters in producing land forms on the study area increases during winter time. Discharge of the river decreases because of low precipitation and higher temperatures in summertime.
