<p>This article examines the Turkic personal names attested in the Bactrian legal documents discovered in northern Afghanistan, analysing them within their onomastic, historical, and sociocultural contexts. The primary material of the study consists of legal documents dated between the 4th and 8th centuries CE. First, the historical background of Bactria, the presence of Turkic rule in the region, and the broader framework of Turkic–Iranian interactions are outlined. Subsequently, the titles and personal names recorded in the documents are evaluated from the perspective of the history of the Turkic language. In this study, personal names such as βαιο “Bay,” βηκο “Bek,” κηραυ τογγαυο τογγαυο σπαραυ “Kera Toŋa Toŋa Spara,” μαγατορο βοκολαυο “Maġatur Bukla,” σωρο “Çor,” τητοκο “Tetuk,” υιλιτοβηρο “Hilitber,” χαλασο “Ḫalas,” and χοτολογο ταπαγλιιο βιλγαυο σαβονο “Ḳutluġ Tapaġlıġ Bilge Sevüg” are examined from an etymological perspective and compared with their attestations in Old Turkic, Sogdian, and other regional languages. The findings indicate that the Turkic personal names attested in the Bactrian legal documents constitute early witnesses to the Turkic naming tradition known from Old Turkic sources. These findings also show that the Turkish presence in Bactria was reflected not only in political and military spheres but also in naming practices, title usage, ethnic identity, and social status. This article expands earlier research by focusing specifically on Turkic personal names and highlights the Bactrian documents as an important source for the onomastics of Central Asia.</p></trans-abstract>

Çalışmanın ana malzemesini, MS 4.- 8. yüzyıllar arasında düzenlenen hukuk belgeleri oluşturmaktadır. İlk olarak Baktriya bölgesinin tarihsel arka planı, bölgedeki Türk hâkimiyeti ve Türk-İran temasları kısaca özetlenmiş; ardından belgelerde yer alan unvanlar ve kişi adları Türk dili tarihi açısından değerlendirilmiştir.
