<p>This phenomenological study aims to deeply explore the essence of vocational high school students’ labeling experiences in the school environment and the meanings they attach to these experiences. The research is based on semi-structured interviews with students studying at a vocational high school in Bursa, selected through maximum variation sampling. The thematic analysis of the data reveals that the labels students encounter stem from social and individual differences such as physical appearance, deviation from gender norms, ethnic identity, academic performance, and socioeconomic status, and that this process often escalates into peer bullying. Labeling, through psychosocial mechanisms such as the “looking-glass self” and the “self-fulfilling prophecy,” has been found to undermine students’ self-perception, weaken their social relationships, and reduce their academic motivation. Nevertheless, students do not always passively endure this process; they sometimes employ active resistance and coping strategies. The study indicates that vocational high school students face a layered pressure, conceptualized as “double labeling,” resulting from both the institutional stigma attached to their schools and the individual labels they experience. By highlighting the profound impact of exclusionary practices on students’ subjective experiences, this study provides valuable insights for developing more inclusive educational policies.</p></trans-abstract>
