An Evaluation in the Context of Biophilic Urbanism and Biophilic Design Approach: The Case of Mogan Park in Gölbaşi, Ankara

Abstract

Today, the increasing population and urbanization rates worldwide have brought with them many urban and environmental problems. Therefore, while there are various approaches to urban and especially environmental problems in the literature, the concept of biophilia has come to the forefront in recent years. The concept of biophilia is fundamentally associated with love for nature and life. Biophilic urbanism and biophilic design, within this framework, can be linked to design and urbanization that are in harmony with nature and effective in increasing the health and happiness levels of individuals. Accordingly, this study aims to contribute to the conceptual clarification of biophilic urbanism and biophilic design through case-based analysis. In this context, a literature review on the subject was conducted, and face-to-face interviews were held with Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. In addition to all this, a survey was conducted with 100 people randomly selected from within Mogan Park. Subsequently, observations were conducted in Mogan Park and the collected data were analyzed. In conclusion, it can be said that Mogan Park contributes to the health and happiness levels of individuals using the park and that it was designed in accordance with biophilic design criteria.
