Toplumsal, sosyal ve ekonomik gelişmelere bağlı olarak yaşam şekilleri değişikliğe uğramıştır. Değişen yaşam koşulları pek çok yapının fiziksel ömrünün işlevsel ömründen uzun olmasında rol oynamıştır. Bu durum sosyal, kültürel, tarihi ve mimari değerlere sahip yapıların yaşatılarak korunması fikrini doğurmuştur. Bu doğrultuda atılan adımlardan biri tarihi yapıların günümüz eylemlerine cevap verebilecek nitelikte yeniden işlevlendirilmesi olmuştur. Bu yaklaşımla da tarihi yapıların gelecek kuşaklara aktarımı, kültürel ve sosyal sürekliliği sağlanmaya başlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada da Edirne II. Bayezid Külliyesi’ndeki Tıp Medresesi ele alınmıştır. II. Bayezid Külliyesi, Osmanlı mimarisinin gelişme sürecinde inşa edilmiş önemli külliyelerden biridir. Bünyesinde cami, tabhane, şifahane, medrese, imaret, çifte hamam, değirmen, köprü ve çeşme barındırmış; fakat söz konusu yapıların tümü günümüze ulaşamamıştır. Günümüze ulaşan yapılardan biri tıp eğitiminin verildiği medresedir. Tıp medresesi, yakınında konumlanan şifahene ile birlikte döneminin hem sağlık hizmeti hem de tıp eğitimi verilen kurumlarından biri olarak önem kazanmıştır. Ancak orijinal işlevini yitiren yapı uzun süre atıl kalmıştır. 20. yüzyılın sonlarında bir süre Trakya Üniversitesi Edirne Meslek Yüksekokulu'nun Restorasyon ve Duvar Süsleme Bölümlerine ev sahipliği yapmıştır. Tekrar işlevsiz kalan yapı 2008’de müzeye dönüştürülmüştür. Çalışma kapsamında, öncelikle tarihi yapıların sürdürülebilirliği bağlamında yeniden işlevlendirmenin tanımından, öneminden, faydalarından, yeniden işlevlendirme yaklaşımlarından söz edilmiştir. Daha sonra benzer fonksiyondaki Anadolu tıp kurumlarından günümüze ulaşanların bugünkü işlevlerine değinilmiştir. Çalışma özelinde ise medresenin tarihçesi, mimari özellikleri ve yeni işlevi incelenmiştir. Yapının yeniden işlevlendirilmesi, tarihi yapıların sürdürülebililirliği açısından; yeni işlevi de benzer fonksiyondaki yapıların günümüz işlevleri, yeniden işlevlendirme kriterleri, mekâna, kente ve topluma katkıları açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca yeni işlevine ek öneriler getirilmiştir.
Lifestyles have changed depending on social, social and economic developments. Changing living conditions have played a role in the physical life of many buildings being longer than their functional life. This situation led to the idea of preserving the buildings with social, cultural, historical and architectural values by keeping them alive. One of the steps taken in this direction has been the adaptive reuse of historical buildings in a way that can respond to today's actions. With this approach, the transfer of historical buildings to future generations and their cultural and social continuity have begun to be ensured. In this study, The Medical School in the Edirne Bayezid II. Complex is discussed. Bayezid II. Complex is one of the important complexes built during the development period of Ottoman architecture. The units of the complex were a mosque, tabhane (hospice), şifahane (hospital), medical school, imaret (a social aid unit), public bath, water mill, bridge and fountain; but not all of these buildings have survived to the present day. One of the buildings that have survived to the present day is the medical school where medical education is given. The medical school gained importance as one of the institutions that provided both health care and medical education of its time, together with the şifahane located nearby. However, the building, which lost its original function, remained idle for a long time. At the end of the 20th century, it hosted the Restoration and Wall Decoration Departments of Trakya University Edirne Vocational School for a while. The building, which became dysfunctional again, was turned into a museum in 2008. Within the scope of the study, first of all, the definition, importance, benefits and approaches of refunctioning in the context of the sustainability of historical buildings were mentioned. Afterward, today's functions of Anatolian medical institutions with similar functions were analyzed. In the study, the history, architectural features and new function of the medical school were examined. The adaptive reuse of the building was analyzed in terms of the sustainability of the historical buildings; the new function of the buildings with similar functions has been evaluated in terms of their current functions, adaptive reuse criteria, and their contributions to the space, city and society. In addition, additional suggestions have been made for its new function.
