Son yıllarda yapılan arkeometrik kil analizleri Çanakkale civarında arkaik seramik üreten bir işliğin varlığına işaret etmiştir. “Hellespontos İşliği” adı verilen bu seramik üretim merkezinin temel olarak Güney İonia stilinde seramik ürettiği ve ürünlerini, en azından Karadeniz’deki bazı koloni kentlerine pazarladığı anlaşılmıştır. Analizi yapılan örneklerden yola çıkarak bu işliğin ürünlerini mümkün olduğunca net bir şekilde tanımlayabilmek bu çalışmanın amaçlarından birisidir. Parion kenti nekropolis alanlarında 2004 yılında gerçekleştirilen çalışmalar Hellespontos İşliği ürünü olabilecek seramik örnekleri sunmuştur. Bu seramiklerin yanı sıra, aynı işliğin ya da muhtemel diğer yerel işliklerin ürünleri olabilecek bazı seramik gruplarına dikkat çekilmiştir
Recently conducted archaeometric clay analyses indicate that there was an archaic pottery workshop around Çanakkale. This production center, the so called “the Hellespont Workshop”, produced pottery mainly in the South Ionian style. The products of the workshop were imported at least to some of the Black Sea colonies, like Istros and Berezan. One of the aims of this study, is to define the production of this workshop, in the light of the analysed examples. The excavation of the necropolis of Parion in 2004, revealed some pottery which was probably the product of the ‘Hellespont Workshop’. Besides, some other classes of pottery might be assigned to this workshop or to another local production center.
