<p>This paper deals with the famous local Asia Minor historiographer Memnon of Heraclea Pontica and his work peri Herakleias, which has survived in the edition of the Bibliotheke of Photius of Byzantium (codex 224). The work has been examined mainly within the framework of fundamental historiographic analysis practices such as the stylistic criticism and the use of methods, styles and sources. In this sense, firstly Photios’ notes concerning Memnon and his work are taken into account; and secondly, in the light of modern investigations, our knowledge of Memnon and suggestions as to in which period the work might have been written are included in the text. In the following chapters focusing on the content of the work and Memnon’s understanding of historiography the interaction between him and with Classical and Hellenistic historiographers are discussed with various examples. Then the sources forming Memnon’s historiography and his historical approach is presented in this chapter. The study ends with a general evaluation compiling the data which were used.</p></trans-abstract>
