SUMMARY
Relationship of cerebrospinal fluid and plasma electrolytes in metabolic
acidosis
In this study the plasma and CSF electrolytes of patients with metabolic acidosis and normal subjects are investigated.
8 Control subjects and 16 patients with metabolic acidosis are included. Lumbal punction was performed and arterial biood was taken from the femoral artery of each subject and pH was measured. Electrolytes (Na, K, Cl, Ca, PJ of CSF and venous blood were measured.
In control patients the CSF pH was 0.01 mol/gm lower than arterial pH, In patients with metabolic acidosis, CSF pH was near normal level while arterial pH was low. In control patients plasma K, Ca and P levels were higher than CSF levels, while Na, and Cl were lower than CSF levels. The same ratio was found in patients with metabolic acidosis.
These results have shown that in normal patients plasma and CSF elec¬trolytes are kept in a constant ratio and this does not change in patients with metabolic acidosis.
Her iki örneğin pH ölçüldü.
