SUMMARY
Hyperthyroidism in the elderly : A case report
Hyperthyroidism, which is a common disease, presents a special feature in old people. To establish the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism in old patients is difficult and may be often missed since symptoms and signs of hyper¬metabolism are not clear in the old as in young people.
A 66-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with atypical complaints, such as dizzeness, cold sweat, nausea and vomiting. Since he had weight loss and recent atrial fibrillation attacks, hyperthyroidism was suspected. T3 and T4 levels were found very high. On account of this case, it was thought that «Hyperthyroidism in the elderly» had better be reviewed.
