SUMMARY
THE TREATMENT AND OUTCOME IN A CASE WITH SECUNDUM ASD ASSOCIATED WITH PULMONARY HYPERTENSION
Most of the children with a secundum atrial septal defect (ASD) are asymptomatic. Severe pulmonary hypertension is rare in cases with secundum ASD. In such cases the severity of pulmonary hypertension is frequently greater than that found in the asymptomatic older children. Conservative treatment may not be successful, but the mortality of surgery depends mainly on the presence of pulmonary hypertension. This report is about a case of a 9 - year — old girl with secundum ASD and pulmonary hyper tens ion. The patient has been treated by surgery. The usefulness of the treatment has been discussed according to the results of pre-operative and post-operative hemodynamic studies.
ÖZET
Sekundum tip atrial septal. defektli (ASD)'li çocukların çoğu asemptomatiktir. Bu hastalarda şiddetli pulmoner hipertansi¬yonun gelişmesi nadirdir. Konservatif tedavi etkili olmaya¬bilir, fakat cerrahi mortalitesi de sözkonusudur ve pulmoner hipertansiyonun varlığına bağlıdır. Burada 9 yaşında sekun¬dum tip ASD ve pulmoner hipertansiyon tanısı almış bir vaka sunulmuştur. Hastaya cerrahi tedavi uygulanmış, cerrahi öncesi ve sonrası hemodinamik çalışmalar sonucu ile hastanın tedavi sonrası durumu tartışılmıştır.
