Improving Career Decision Self-Efficacy and Vocational Outcome Expectancies of Psychological Counselor Candidates

Öz

This study aimed to investigate the effect of the psycho-education program developed on the basis of Social Cognitive Career Theory on the career decision self-efficacy and vocational outcome expectancies of the psychological counselor candidates. The research was carried out in a semi-experimental design and the participants consisted of 54 undergraduate students (27 experimental group, 27 control group) studying in the department of psychological counseling and guidance. There were 33 (61%) female students and 22 (39%) male students. While the experimental group involved in the psycho-education program developed within the scope of the research, the control group received no intervention. This psycho-education program is a two-group design that was implemented separately by the researchers in the experimental groups. The data to determine the effectiveness of the application were obtained through Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form and Vocational Outcome Expectations Scale. The independent samples t-test, analysis of covariance, multivariate analysis of variance and multivariate analysis of covariance were utilized in the analysis of the research data. The result of this analysis indicated that the post-test scores corrected according to the pre-test scores of career decision self-efficacy expectancy and vocational outcome expectancy differ in favor of the experimental group. The findings also revealed that the psycho-education program was effective to increase participants' career decision self-efficacy expectancy and professional outcome expectancy.

Psikolojik Danışman Adaylarının Kariyer Kararı Yetkinlik ve Mesleki Sonuç Beklentilerinin Geliştirilmesi

Öz

Bu araştırmada, Sosyal Bilişsel Kariyer Kuramı temelinde geliştirilen psikoeğitim programının psikolojik danışman adaylarının kariyer kararı yetkinlik ve mesleki sonuç beklentileri üzerindeki etkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırma, yarı deneysel desende gerçekleştirilmiş olup, çalışma grubunu rehberlik ve psikolojik danışmanlık anabilim dalında öğrenim gören 54 üniversite öğrencisi (27 deney, 27 kontrol grubu) oluşturmuştur. Deney grubuna araştırma kapsamında geliştirilen psikoeğitim programı uygulanırken, kontrol grubuna yönelik herhangi bir uygulama yapılmamıştır. Deney gruplarında psikoeğitim programı iki ayrı grup halinde araştırmacılar tarafından uygulanmış, uygulamanın etkililiğini belirlemeye yönelik veriler Kariyer Kararı Yetkinlik Beklentisi Ölçeği Kısa Formu ve Mesleki Sonuç Beklentisi Ölçeği aracılığı ile elde edilmiştir. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde ilişkisiz gruplar t-testi, kovaryans analizi, çok değişkenli varyans analizi ve çok değişkenli kovaryans analizi kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonucunda kariyer kararı yetkinlik beklentisi ve mesleki sonuç beklentisinin ön-test puanlarına göre düzeltilmiş son test puanlarının deney grubu lehine farklılaştığı bulunmuştur. Bu bulgular psikoeğitim programının psikolojik danışman adaylarının kariyer kararı yetkinlik beklentisi ve mesleki sonuç beklentisini artırmada etkili olduğunu göstermiştir.
