American Influences in the Near East before 1861

Year 2025, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 1 - 12, 01.01.2025

Abstract

This research, which examines Ottoman-American relations, focuses on how American merchant ships started their trade life in Ottoman waters, how American merchants, especially in İzmir, İstanbul and Beirut, were organised in these port cities, how they established relations with the Ottoman political elite, and how this relationship affected the fields of agriculture, shipping, mining, education and culture in Ottoman lands. In addition to trade, another important issue that the study focuses on is the purpose and spread of American educational and health institutions, which spread to the Arab geography of the Ottoman Empire and then to all corners of Anatolia from 1820 onwards.

1861’den Önce Yakın Doğu’da Amerikan Nüfuzu

Year 2025, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 1 - 12, 01.01.2025
