Abdullah Dağcı’nın Yaşlılık ve Maneviyat adlı eseri, yaşlılık döneminin sosyal, psikolojik ve fizyolojik yönleriyle birlikte manevi ihtiyaçlarını da ele alarak bu dönemde maneviyatın birey üzerindeki etkilerini incelemektedir. Artan yaşlı nüfusun yaşam kalitesini artırmada manevi desteğin önemi, literatür taraması, huzurevlerinde yapılan gözlemler ve bireysel görüşmelerle temellendirilmiştir. Çalışmada yaşlı bireylerin manevi ihtiyaçları 13 tema çerçevesinde belirlenmiş ve bu temalara uygun manevi bakım içerikleri oluşturulmuştur. Tespit edilen manevi ihtiyaçları karşılamaya yönelik manevi bakım içerikleri oluşturulmuş ve bu içerikler tema odaklı grup toplantıları aracılığıyla kontrol gruplu ön test-son test deneysel desen kapsamında yaşlılara uygulanmıştır. Uygulanan içeriğin yaşlıların hem psikolojik iyi oluş, umut ve sevgi yönelimli Tanrı algısı düzeylerini artırdığı hem de onları sosyal, psikolojik ve fiziksel açıdan desteklediği tespit edilmiştir. Eser, yaşlılıkta sıkça karşılaşılan sağlık problemleri, yalnızlık, kayıplar ve ölüm kaygısı gibi sorunlara manevi bakış açısıyla çözüm önerileri sunarken, aynı zamanda yaşlı bireylerin anlatılarına yer vererek okuyucunun empati kurmasını sağlamaktadır. Ayrıca bu çalışmada maneviyatın yaşlı bireyler üzerindeki olumlu etkileri vurgulanmış, maneviyatla ilgili içeriklerin yaşlı bireylerin iyi oluşlarını desteklediği de çalışmada örneklerle sunulmuştur. Din psikolojisi, manevi danışmanlık ve yaşlı bakımı alanlarında çalışan uzmanlar için önemli bir kaynak sunan bu çalışma, teorik derinliğinin yanı sıra uygulamalı yönüyle de dikkat çekmektedir.
Abdullah Dağcı’s Old Age and Spirituality examines the social, psychological, and physiological aspects of the aging period, alongside the spiritual needs of individuals, exploring the impact of spirituality on the elderly during this stage of life. The study underscores the importance of spiritual support in enhancing the quality of life for the growing elderly population, grounding its findings in a literature review, observations in nursing homes, and individual interviews. Within the study, the spiritual needs of elderly individuals were identified under 13 themes, and spiritual care contents corresponding to these themes were developed. These spiritual care materials, designed to meet the identified needs, were implemented through theme-focused group meetings within a controlled pre-test/post-test experimental design. The results indicated that the intervention improved the psychological well-being, hope, and love-oriented perception of God among the elderly, while also providing social, psychological, and physical support. The work offers spiritually oriented solutions to issues frequently encountered in old age—such as health problems, loneliness, losses, and death anxiety—while incorporating the narratives of elderly individuals to foster empathy in the reader. Moreover, the study highlights the positive effects of spirituality on the elderly, providing examples of how spirituality-related content can enhance their well-being. Serving as a valuable resource for professionals in the fields of psychology of religion, spiritual counseling, and elderly care, the work stands out for its combination of theoretical depth and practical application.
