Abramson, R. K., Ravan, S. A., Wright, H. H., Wieduwilt, K., Wolpert, C. M., Donnelly, S.
Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) defined as a personality pattern characterized by features such as preoccupation with organization, order, and details; perfectionism; excessive commitment to responsibilities, rules and moral values; rigidity and hoarding. In literature, it was seen that studies on the etiology of OCPD are scarce. Therefore, the purpose of this review article is to evaluate various approaches explaining the etiology of OCPD and empirical studies related to these approaches, and to provide a more holistic framework for the etiology of OCPD. For this, first of all, the approaches in the literature were examined under three sub-headings according to their content: psychological-based approaches, biological-based approaches and compensatory/adaptive approaches. Under each approach, various factors that provide explanations for the etiology of OCPD are explained, followed by the findings of the empirical studies and limitations in the literature. Then, all these approaches were evaluated and discussed from a holistic perspective.
</trans-abstract>
