This study investigates the effects of the pop surrealism movement in the field of art anddesign and evaluates the applications of this style in the field of health. The research aimsto understand how pop surrealist illustrations for children between the ages of 7-11 areperceived by children in this age group. In this direction, the historical development andcurrent reflections of pop surrealism were discussed, and illustrations were designed in thelight of the findings on the importance of art in the field of health. These illustrations werehung in the designated parts of Hacettepe University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department ofPedodontics. In this way, it was aimed to create positive sources of distraction for boys andgirls between the ages of 7-11 who applied to the hospital. The effects of the illustrations onchildren were evaluated through interviews and observations. Numerical data were interpretedin the findings obtained. It was concluded that the illustrations attracted the attentionof children and their aesthetic and fairy tale-like features had a positive effect. These resultsreveal the potential of using art as a tool in the field of health. The study is a guide for designerswho want to use art effectively in health environments and draws attention to theneed to expand the applications in this field in Turkey.
Bu çalışma, pop sürrealizm hareketinin sanat ve tasarım alanındaki etkilerini araştırmaktave bu tarzın sağlık alanındaki uygulamalarını değerlendirmektedir. Araştırma, 7-11 yaşaralığındaki çocuklar için pop sürrealist illüstrasyonların, bu yaş grubundaki çocuklar tarafındannasıl algılandığını anlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu doğrultuda, pop sürrealizmintarihsel gelişimi ve güncel yansımaları ele alınmış, sanatın sağlık alanındaki önemine dairbulgular ışığında illüstrasyonlar tasarlanmıştır. Bu illüstrasyonlar Hacettepe Üniversitesi,Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi, Pedodonti Bölümünün belirlenen kısımlarına asılmıştır. Bu sayedehastaneye başvuran 7-11 yaş aralığındaki kız ve erkek çocuklar için olumlu dikkat dağınıklığıkaynaklarının oluşturulması hedeflenmiştir. Yapılan görüşme ve gözlemler yoluylaillüstrasyonların çocuklar üzerindeki etkilerini değerlendirmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulardasayısal veriler yorumlanmıştır. İllüstrasyonların çocukların dikkatini çektiğini, estetik vemasalsı özelliklerinin olumlu bir etki yarattığı sonucuna varılmıştır. Bu sonuçlar, sanatınsağlık alanında bir araç olarak kullanılma potansiyelini ortaya koymaktadır. Çalışma,sağlık ortamlarında sanatı etkin şekilde kullanmak isteyen tasarımcılar için rehber niteliğindedirve Türkiye’de bu alandaki uygulamaların yaygınlaştırılması gerektiğine dikkatçekmektedir.
