With the use of pottery wheel which is a turning point in Ceramic Art, the speed of ceramicproduction and also the quality of the products is increased. This increase and the developmenthas been taken long period. In this period the development of pottery wheel is nourished from thetechnic and technologic opportunities and it became more functional and prevalent.The primitive and developed types of pottery wheel could be seen also today, which is the basictool of traditional and industrial production. This situation is closely related with the tradition,habit and also the culture. In the extent of this study the pottery wheels which are used in ceramicshaping (with hand, foot, treadle, and electric) according to the working principles will be disscussed with the view of formal and intercultural distinctions. And also pottery wheels which are in usetoday will be disscussed.
Seramik sanatında bir dönüm noktası olarak nitelendirebileceğimiz seramik tornaların kullanımıyla seramik üretimi hız kazanmış ve üretilen ürünlerin kalitesi artmıştır. Bu artış ve gelişim uzun bir sürece yayılmaktadır. Bu süreçte tornanın gelişimi teknik ve teknolojik olanaklardan bes- lenmiş ve seramik tornaları daha işlevsel daha yaygın bir kullanım alanı bulmuştur. Geleneksel ve endüstriyel üretimin temel aracı olan tornanın ilkel ve gelişmiş türlerinin günümüzde de kullanılmakta olduğu görülmektedir. Bu durum gelenek, alışkanlık ve kültürle yakından ilişkilidir. Bu bildiri kapsamında seramik şekillendirmede kullanılan tornalar (el, ayak, pedal ve elektrikle) çalışma prensibine göre dört ana başlık altında ele alınacak, biçimsel ve kültürler arası farklılıklara ve günümüzde kullanılan tornalar hakkında da bilgi verilecektir.
