USAGE OF AROMATHERAPY IN SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT IN CANCER PATIENTS

Abstract

Cancer is, a serious health problem of life-threatening and leading to future and uncertainty concerns, with a high mortality and morbidity rate, located the second most common cause of death in the world. Cancer and treatments cause many unwanted symptoms and these symptoms decrease the quality of life. Cancer patients often apply to complementary therapy in the management of these symptoms. Nowadays, complementary therapies are accepted as a treatment method by cancer patients because of easily applicable and cheap, easily accessible, they do not have serious side effects . Aromatherapy which is one of theses procedures is a method in used for supporting purposes which essential oils. Aromatherapy provides positive effects improvement of quality of life on the management of symptoms related to treatment and cancer. This review article was written to inform health professionals about the use of aromatherapy in symptom management of cancer patients.

KANSER HASTALARININ SEMPTOM YÖNETİMİNDE AROMATERAPİ KULLANIMI

Abstract

Kanser, dünyada ölüm nedenleri arasında ikinci sırada yer alan, mortalite ve morbidite oranı yüksek, gelecek ve belirsizlik kaygısına yol açan ve yaşamı tehdit eden ciddi bir sağlık sorunudur. Kanser ve tedavisi istenmeyen pek çok semptoma neden olmakta ve bu semptomlar yaşam kalitesini azaltmaktadır. Kanser hastaları sıklıkla bu semptomların yönetiminde tamamlayıcı terapi yöntemlerine başvurmaktadır. Günümüzde tamamlayıcı terapi yöntemleri ciddi yan etkilerinin olmaması, kolay ulaşılabilir, ucuz ve kolay uygulanabilir olması nedenleri ile kanser hastaları tarafından bir tedavi yöntemi olarak kabul görmektedir. Bu yöntemlerden biri olan aromaterapi, esansiyel yağların destekleyici amaçla kullanıldığı bir yöntemdir. Aromaterapi, kanser ve tedavisine bağlı gelişen semptomların yönetiminde ve yaşam kalitesinin artırılmasında olumlu etkiler sağlamaktadır. Bu derleme makale, kanser hastalarının semptom yönetiminde aromaterapi kullanımı hakkında sağlık profesyonellerinin bilgilendirilmesi amacıyla yazılmıştır.
