                                                                                                <abstract><p>ObjectiveEven though the importance of illness perception inthe clinical course of many physical diseases andcertain mental disorders has been well documented,little is known about illness perception in bipolardisorder. This study reveals the relationship betweenillness perception, coping styles, and self-efficacy inpatients with bipolar disorder. Secondly, to investigatethe effects of these variables on the clinical course.Material and MethodIn this cross-sectional study, we evaluated a cohortof 157 subjects with bipolar disorder recruited fromMarch 2021 to September 2021. Illness perceptionwas measured using the Turkish version of the BriefIllness Perception Questionnaire. Self-efficacy wasassessed using the Self-Efficacy Scale. Coping wasevaluated using the Ways of Coping Questionnaire.ResultsOf 157 patients who had bipolar disorder ages’ meanwas 42.08±12.92. 84 (53.5%) of these participantswere female, 73 (46.5%) of them were male.                             <p>AmaçBirçok fiziksel hastalığın ve bazı ruhsal bozukluklarınklinik seyrinde hastalık algısının rolü iyi tanımlanmışolmasına rağmen, şu ana kadar bipolar bozukluk ileilişkili hastalık algısı hakkında çok az şey bilinmektedir.Bu çalışmada bipolar bozukluk tanısı olan olgulardahastalık algısı, baş etme tarzları ve öz-yeterlilikarasındaki ilişkiyi inceleyerek bu değişkenlerin klinikseyir üzerindeki etkilerini araştırmak amaçlanmıştır.Gereç ve YöntemBu kesitsel çalışmada, Mart 2021- Eylül 2021 tarihleriarasında bipolar bozukluğu olan 157 katılımcıdan oluşanbir kohortu değerlendirdik. Veri toplama araçlarıolarak Sosyodemografik Bilgi Formu, Kısa HastalıkAlgısı Ölçeği, Özyeterlilik Ölçeği ve Stresle Başa ÇıkmaTarzları Ölçeği kullanılmıştır.BulgularOlguların yaş ortalaması 42.08±12.92 yıl idi.
