ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to investigate the placeof Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA)expression in differential diagnosis and its effect onprognosis in thyroid tumors.Material and MethodImmunohistochemical PSMA and CD34 were appliedto paraffin blocks of 95 patients diagnosed withdifferent histological types of thyroid cancer. Thepercentage of vascular expression in the tumoral andextratumoral stroma and the density score in the tumorepithelium were evaluated and grouped according toPSMA expression level. Final PSMA expression wasdetermined by multiplying intensity and percentagepoints.An increase in expression was observed with PSMAin areas with neovascularization in thyroid tumors. Novascular staining was detected with PSMA in nonneoplasticthyroid tissue. No increase in expressionwas seen in Non-invasive folicular thyroid neoplasmwith papillary like nuclear features (NIFTP) casescompared to aggressive tumorsConclusionIt was determined that increased PSMA expressionwas associated with poor prognosis, and it was foundthat it can be used to differentiate NIFTP cases fromother tumors.
</trans-abstract>
