<p>ObjectivePre-eclampsia, a multi-systemic disease that developsduring pregnancy, is a pathology that causes atleast 42.000 maternal deaths per year. Theoriesregarding the pathophysiology of pre-eclampsia aremainly based on maternal-fetal (paternal) immunemalperfusion, which is thought to be associatedwith superficial placentation, and the cause of preeclampsiahas not yet been fully elucidated. Apelin isa peptide that affects blood pressure regulation andvascular functions, and also has various physiologicalfunctions. In this study, plasma apelin-13 levels werestudied in normal and development of early-onsetpre-eclampsia pregnant women to evaluate whetherapelin-13 has a role in the development of early-onsetpre-eclampsia.Material and MethodIn this case-control prospective study, a total of 60pregnant women who applied to the Obstetrics andGynecology Service were included in the study. The groups in the project were designed as healthypregnant control (n: 30) and the development ofearly-onset pre-eclampsia pregnant (n: 30). Thedevelopment of early-onset pre-eclampsia groupconsisted of the development of early-onset preeclampsiapregnant women diagnosed with preeclampsiaat the 30th week. Platelet, serum albumin,ALT, AST, urea, creatinine and plasma apelin-13values were measured from the blood samples takenfrom the participants at the 30th week.ResultsCompared to healthy pregnant controls, the decreasesin platelet and serum albumin levels, and the increasesin ALT, AST, urea, and creatinine parameters in thedevelopment of early-onset pre-eclampsia pregnantwomen were statistically significant (p=0,011;p=0,001; p=0,006; p=0,05; p=0,001; p=0,003;respectively). When the plasma apelin-13 value wascompared between healthy and the developmentof early-onset pre-eclampsia pregnant women, nosignificant difference was found.ConclusionApelin-13 has no diagnostic value in the diagnosis ofdevelopment of early-onset pre-eclampsia developingafter the 30th week.</p></trans-abstract>
