The abuse of these drugsfor success, especially by high school and universitystudents, is quite common at the international level.Young people consider these drugs as a savior inorder to be successful in the exams and to sustainwith their social life. It is possible that medicaleducation is very hard and stressful for students inthe world. The students feel too much pressure tosucceed. So, this situation directs students towardsalternatives that will reduce the pressure, stay awakeand focus more. This study aims to understand theprocess and usage habits that direct medical studentsto methylphenidate.Material and MethodThe study was designed as a qualitative researchmethod with an anthropological perspective. Medicalstudents&#039; experiences, thoughts, and observationson the illicit use of methylphenidate were collectedby researcher, using the in-depth interviews. Thestudy started with face-to-face interviews at theend of 2019. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, thenegotiations were completed in February 2022, aftera long break. The opinions of 17 volunteer studentswho participated in the study were evaluated with adescriptive approach.ResultsAccording to our research findings, medicalstudents are positive about the non-medical use ofmethylphenidate to save the day, despite its sideeffects. The use of the drug increases especiallyduring exam periods. It is seen that drugs are asan easy alternative for students. The medicines aremostly provided from other friends who still use them.In addition, the drug is also used for weight loss. It isa fact that its effects are exaggerated and advertisedamong non-prescription users. The results of ourresearch are similar with international ones.ConclusionThere are very few studies on the illicit use ofpsychomotor stimulants in our country. The findingsprove that medical students need healthy andsustainable alternatives to cope with the stress andpressure on them. It is thought that this study will bea basis for determining the long-term negative effectsof misuse of the drugs and taking precautions. Theresearch is a preliminary assessment to explore thecurrent situation. It is clear that there is a need formore information, quantitative and qualitative data inthe field.</p>
