LSE,transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS),and hot pack treatments were performed in Group1 (n=28). In Group 2 (n=37), TENS and hot packtreatments were performed only. Pre and 8-weekpost-treatment assessments were made. VisualAnalog Scale (VAS) was used to evaluate pain.Modified Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and RolandMorris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) were usedto evaluate the functional disability. Short Form-36(SF-36) was used to measure the quality of life. Inthe assessment of balance, a Tetrax® posturographydevice (Sunlight Medical Ltd, Israel) was used and fallindex (FI) was calculated. The cross-sectional area ofmultifidus muscles was measured by ultrasonography.ResultsSignificant improvements regarding the crosssectionalarea of multifidus musclesand subparametersof SF-36 named physical role, pain, mental health, and energy/vitality were determined inGroup 1 compared to Group 2 (p˂0.05). No significantdifference was present between the groups regardingFI, VAS score, RMDQ, ODI, and balance.ConclusionLumbar stabilization exercises in patients with chroniclow back pain multifidus positively affects crosssectionalarea and quality of life. For our sample, the addition of lumbar stabilization exercises tothe conventional physical therapy program doesnot provides an additional contribution in terms ofbalance, pain and disability.</p>
