ObjectiveIn this study, it was aimed to determine the culturespecificcaregiving competence, difficultiesexperienced, and recommendations for solutionregarding the students taking a pediatric nursingcourse.Material and Method169 students were included in the study. The dataof the research were collected online using the"Introductory Information Form" and the "NurseCultural Competence Scale". SPSS 20.0 softwarewas used in the analysis of the data, and comparisonsaccording to demographic characteristics were madewith a t-test and ANOVA. Ethics committee approvalto conduct the study and the participants' consentwere obtained.ResultsThe mean age of the students participating in thestudy was 22.72±1.77 years, and the majority ofthem (74%) were female. The mean score obtainedby the students on the Nurse Cultural CompetenceScale was calculated as 72.20±11.41. The culturalcompetence levels of the students who did not havethe experience of caring for a patient from a differentculture (75.03±10.91) were found to be significantlyhigher than the students who had such experience(70.73±11.44) (p=0.019). The cultural competencelevels of the students who thought that the coursestaken during their nursing education were sufficientto provide care to patients from different cultures(74.76±9.34) were found to be significantly higher thanthe students who did not think (69,15±12,88) that thenursing education was sufficient (p=0.002).ConclusionIt is considered that supporting students in foreignlanguage education during nursing education, includingpractices specific to different cultures in the coursecontent, and providing students with the opportunityto work with patients from different countries throughexchange programs as much as possible will increasetheir levels of cultural competence.
</trans-abstract>
