ObjectiveOne of the most frequently performed interventions inpremature newborns is the examination for retinopathyof prematurity. It is known that this examination isa painful procedure for newborns and may causesome physiological and behavioral changes relatedto pain in premature newborns. This study aimedto reveal the effect of multi-sensory stimulation oninterventional pain, which will be applied during theeye examination for premature retinopathy screeningin premature newborns.Material and MethodThis study was designed as a practitioner- andassessor-blind randomized controlled clinical trial. Thestudy was conducted with 60 premature newborns intotal. While the multi-sensory stimulation program wasapplied to the intervention group three minutes beforethe eye examination, routine care was applied to thecontrol group without any additional intervention.The Neonatal Pain Profile was used as the primaryoutcome measure. Secondary outcome measuresinclude heart rate and oxygen saturation. Data wereanalyzed using SPSS (version 23) software.ResultsIn the study, pain scores in both groups were foundto be statistically similar before the intervention(Control group: 3.6 ± 1.7, Intervention group: 3.2 ±1.4, p=0.401) It was determined that the two groupswere different in terms of pain scores during and afterthe eye examination (p
</trans-abstract>
