<p>ObjectiveTransurethral resection of the prostate (TUR-P)has been considered as the gold standard surgicaltreatment of BPH for many years. Over the past years,Bipolar Prostate Enucleation (BipolEP) has becamean important alternative method compared to TUR-Pfor BPH treatment. In our study, we aimed to comparethese two methods in terms of postoperative patientcomfort, pain and analgesic use.Material and MethodThe data of 40 patients who underwent TURP andBipolEP procedures in our clinic between May 2022and May 2023 were scanned. There were 20 patientsin the TUR-P group and 20 patients in the BipolEPgroup. Pre-, intra- and postoperative features of thepatients were evaluated. Pain assessments wererecorded using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)by asking patients at 6- hour intervals pre and postoperatively. The highest VAS score was recordedduring the post-operative responses. According to theanswers, the most appropriate painkillers were givenand their quantities were recorded.ResultsThe mean post-operative VAS pain score was 2.9 and3.2 in the TUR-P and BipolEP groups, respectively, andthere was no significant difference between them (p=0.684). Also, no significant difference was observed inthe quantities of NSAIDs, tramadol, parasetemol andhyoscine-N-Butyl Bromide used in postoperative paincontrol (p=1; p=1; p=0,29; p=0,221, respectively). Itwas found that TUR-P and BipolEP methods weresimilar in terms of postoperative pain and medicationrequirement.ConclusionIn our study, no differences were observed betweenthe two methods in terms of postoperative pain andnecessary medications. We believe that this outcomeis due to the fact that they are both performed withsimilar equipments and since they have the samesurgical indications they are performed on similarpatient groups.</p></trans-abstract>
