ObjectiveWe aimed to evaluate the development of pleuraleffusion in patients with chronic renal failure.Material and MethodsPatients with chronic renal failure who were admittedto the internal diseases outpatient clinic and whohad transudative pleural effusion were included inthe study. The patients were evaluated according toage, gender, stage, diagnosis of peripheral edema,presence of dialysis, presence of additional pathology,use of diuretics and treatment response.ResultsThe mean age of the 114 patients (57 male, 57female) was 65 years in our study. The patients werefollowed up with a diagnosis of chronic renal failure foran average of 7.4 years. While 60.5% of the patientshad no additional pathology, the most commonadditional pathology was cardiac diseases. Therewas a statistically significant difference between thepresence of comorbidity, the presence of dialysis, theuse of diuretics, the presence of pericardial effusion,the presence of peripheral edema and the presenceof pleural effusion with response to treatment. All ofthe patients showed significant improvement in thepleural fluid with dialysis and medical treatment.ConclusionIn patients with pleural effusions, surgical treatmentmethods should be avoided as much as possible,especially in fluids having transudative properties, asfull recovery is achieved with effective treatment.

AmaçKronik böbrek yetmezliği ile takipli hastalarda gelişenplevral efüzyonun değerlendirilmesini amaçladık.Gereç ve Yöntemİç hastalıkları polikliniğine başvuran kronik böbrekyetmezliği nedeniyle takipli ve transüdatif vasıflı plevralefüzyonu olan hastalar çalışmaya dahil edildi. Hastalaryaş, cinsiyet, KBY evresi, kaç yıldır tanılı olduğu,periferik ödem varlığı, diyalize girip girmediği, ek patolojivarlığı, diüretik kullanımı, tedavi yanıtı açısındandeğerlendirildi.BulgularÇalışmamıza katılan 57’si erkek, 57’si kadın toplam114 hastanın yaş ortalaması 65 idi. Hastalar ortalama7,4 yıldır kronik böbrek yetmezliği tanısı ile takipedilmekteydi. Hastaların %60,5’inde ek patoloji saptanmazkenen sık rastlanan ek patoloji kardiyak hastalıklardı.Komorbidite varlığı, diyalize girme dururmu,diüretik kullanma durumu, perikardiyal efüzyon varlığı,periferik ödem varlığı ve tedaviye yanıt ile plevralefüzyon varlığı arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlıfark olduğu saptandı. Hastaların tamamında diyalizve medikal tedavi ile plevral sıvıda belirgin iyileşmeizlendi.SonuçPlevral efüzyon gelişen hastalarda çoğu zaman etkintedavi ile tam iyileşme sağlandığından özellikle transüdavasfındaki sıvılarda mümkün olduğunca cerrahitedavi yöntemlerinden kaçınılmalıdır.
