                            <p>ObjectiveIron deficiency anemia (IDA) is one of the most commondiseases in our country and effecting lives ofmillions of people all over the world. There are multifoldreasons for its etiology. This is a retrospectivecross-sectional study to address the prevalence andetiology of IDA among patients in the SDU ResearchHospital, Isparta, Turkey.Materials and MethodsA total of 1000 patients ages between 18-65 whowere admitted to the Outpatient Clinic of Departmentof Internal Medicine, SDU School of Medicine, betweenApril 2017 and November 2017. Complete bloodcount including ferritin, vitamin B12 and level of folicacid values were determined. Gender, age, menopausalstatus, additional diseases and etiologic factors ofthe patients were recorded. Hemoglobin, hematocrit,MCV, RDW, leukocyte, platelet, ferritin, vitamin B12and folic acid levels were also documented. Hemoglobinlevels were calculated as below 12 g/dl and 13g/dl in females and males, respectively. Ferritin lessthan 15 ng/ml (patients with rheumatic diseases lessthan 100 ng / ml) were accepted as IDA.To examinethe etiologic factors in patients with IDA; dietaryiron intake, menstrual bleeding in women, hemorrhoid,peptic ulcer, gastric surgery, gastritis, malignancywere investigated. Additional diseases identified atadmission were chronic liver/kidney/lung/rheumatoid/endocrinological, hypertension, diabetes mellitus,malignancies, hemoglobinopathies and inflammatorybowel disease.ResultsIn our study, 25 % of the women and 7,4 % of menhad IDA, and we found that the prevalence of IDA was20,3 % in all patients. The most common cause ofIDA was menorrhagia in women and gastritis in men.However, we could not fully assess the etiologic factorin 55 % of men and 34,4 % of women with IDA.DiscussionProspective, community based studies that also evaluatepika and parasitosis should be performed in patientswith iron deficiency anemia.</p></trans-abstract>
                                                                                                                                    <abstract><p>AmaçDemir eksikliği anemisi (DEA) dünyada ve ülkemizdeen sık görülen hastalıktır ve etyolojisinde birçok nedenyer almaktadır. Çalışmamızın amacı DEA’ nın SüleymanDemirel Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi hastanesinebaşvuran hastalarda retrospektif olarak prevalansınıve etyolojisini araştırmaktır.Gereç ve YöntemÇalışmaya Nisan 2017 - Kasım 2017 arasında SüleymanDemirel Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi İç Hastalıklarıpolikliniğine başvuran ve en az tam kan sayımı, ferritin,vitamin B12, folik asit değerleri istenmiş 18-65yaş arasındaki toplam 1000 hasta alınmıştır. Hastalaraait cinsiyet, yaş, kadınlarda menopozal durum, ekhastalıkları ve etyolojik faktörleri kaydedilmiştir. Bütünhastaların hemoglobin, hematokrit, MCV, RDW, lökosit,trombosit, ferritin, vitamin B12, folik asit düzeylerikayıt altına alınmıştır.Kadınlarda hemoglobin 12 g/dlaltında, erkeklerde 13 g/dl altında (WHO’ya göre) veferritin 15 ng/ml altında (romatizmal hastalığı olanlarda100 ng/ml’ nin altında) olanlar DEA olarak kabuledilmiştir. DEA’ si saptanan hastalarda etyolojik faktörleriincelemek için; diyetle demir alımı, kadınlardamenstrüel kanama, hemoroid, peptik ülser, mide operasyonu,gastrit, malignite gibi sebepler araştırılmıştır.Başvuruda saptanan ek hastalıklar sırasıyla kronikkaraciğer hastalığı, kronik böbrek hastalığı, akciğerhastalıkları, bağ dokusu hastalıkları, endokrinolojikhastalıklar, hipertansiyon, diabetes mellitus, maligniteler,hemoglobinopatiler ve inflamatuar bağırsak hastalıklarıolarak gruplandırılmıştır.BulgularÇalışmamızdaki kadınların % 25’ inde, erkeklerin %7,4’ inde DEA saptanırken tüm hastalarda ise DEAprevalansını % 20,3 olarak bulduk. DEA etyolojisi isekadınlarda en sık neden menoraji iken erkeklerdegastrit olarak saptandı. Çalışmamızda DEA olan erkeklerin% 55 ve kadınların % 34,4’ ünde ise etyolojisaptanmadı.SonuçDemir eksikliği anemisi ile ilişkili prospektif, pika veparazitoz taramalarını da içeren, toplumsal kökenliçalışmalar yapılması gerekmektedir.</p></abstract>
