ObjectiveWe aimed to get morphometric data of the proximalulna, besides torsion angle, which is rarely found inthe literature.Materials and MethodsIn this study, 25 ulna (11 left, 14 right) found in theAnatomy Department laboratory were used. Eightmorphometric parameters of the proximal ulnawere measured. All dry bones were photographedusing a ruler and transferred to the computer. Then,morphometric measurements were made with thehelp of Image-J analysis program.ResultsIn our measurement we noted that the mean ulnalength was 251.02 ± 16.23 mm and the mean ulnalength except trochlear notch was 223.49 ± 15.52mm. The mean radial notch width was 18.5 ± 3.38mm, the mean radial notch height was 12.09 ± 1.70mm, and the mean trochlear notch depth was 11.57± 1.73 mm. Mean torsion angle, dorsal angulationand varus angle were calculated respectively; 14.64± 8.36º; 5.94º ± 2.01º; 12.48º ± 2.425º. There was nostatistically significant difference in any parameter inthe comparison between the sides.ConclusionThe anatomical shape of the proximal ulna causesspecific difficulties for implants used in humeroulnararthroplasty. The fact that there is no differencebetween the right and left sides in all parametersin this study suggests that the knowledge of theopposite side ulna can be used in the appropriateprosthesis design. In addition, the results of this studywill provide data on ulna dimensions in forensic andanthropological studies.
</trans-abstract>
