                            <p>With the features of the projection system and its location specificity, the theatrical cinema experience has been glorified as a unique way of viewing. Multiplexes which first appeared at the European level in the United Kingdom in the mid-1980s, are often claimed to have standardized this particular experience and have therefore been the target of numerous criticisms. In contrast to the European market where monoscreens still account for a significant component of the theatrical infrastructure, multiplexes which dominate the Turkish market, also participate in Turkey in the crisis of urban transformation because of the shopping malls that host them. Again, unlike their European counterparts located on the outskirts, most shopping malls in İstanbul, are built in the city center. How does watching movies in these shopping malls affect the cinematic experience? What would it change for us to watch the same movie in a multiplex leading up to the mall corridors or in a neighbourhood cinema whose door opens onto the street? To answer these questions, this study is based first on the distinction between neighbourhood cinemas that have a memory and appear as an extension of the house and the multiplexes which can be considered, with their anonymity and uniformity, within the “non-places” category of Augé. Through 15 participant observations held in different types of cinema venues in Istanbul, it then seeks to present scenes from the current theatrical cinema experience in the city.</p></trans-abstract>
                                                                                                                                    <abstract><p>Avrupa düzeyinde ilk kez 1980’lerin ortalarında İngiltere’de ortaya çıkan multipleksler, projeksiyon sisteminin özellikleri ve mekâna özgülüğü ile yüceltile gelmiş bir seyir biçimini tek tipleştirdiği iddia edilen yeni alanlar olarak çok sayıda eleştirinin hedefi olmuştur. Tek perdeli salonların gösterim altyapısının halen önemli bir bileşenini oluşturduğu Avrupa’dan farklı olarak Türkiye pazarının baskın kategorisi olan multipleksler, ülke özelinde içinde bulundukları alışveriş merkezleri nedeniyle kentsel dönüşüm krizinin bir parçası olarak da kabul edilebilirler. Yine Avrupalı muadillerinden farklı biçimde İstanbul’da kent çeperlerine ek olarak merkezlerinde konuşlanan bu AVM’lerde film izlemek seyir deneyimini nasıl etkiler? Aynı filmi alışveriş merkezi koridorlarına çıkan çoklu bir salonda veya kapısı sokağa açılan bir mahalle sinemasında izlemek bizim için neyi değiştirir? Bu ve benzeri sorulara yanıt aramak amacıyla bu çalışma; hafızası olan, evin bir uzantısı gibi görülen mahalle sinemalarıyla kimliksizlik ve tek tiplikleri ile Augé’nin “yok-yerler” kategorisi içerisinde değerlendirilmeye uygun görünen multipleksler arasındaki ayrımdan yola çıkmakta ve İstanbul’da farklı tip salonlarda gerçekleştirilmiş 15 katılımcı gözlem aracılığıyla günümüz seyir deneyimine dair fotoğraflar sunmayı hedeflemektedir.</p></abstract>
