Bu çalışma, Fransız filozof Bernard Stiegler'in teknoloji felsefesi ve kapitalizm eleştirisi bağlamında Peter Weir'in “The Mosquito Coast” (1986) filmini analiz etmektedir.

This study looks at Peter Weir's film “The Mosquito Coast” from 1986. It uses the ideas of Bernard Stiegler, a French thinker, about technology and his views on capitalism. Through Stiegler's ideas about “pharmakon,” “proletarianization,” plus “symbolic poverty,” the paper explores how Allie Fox, the main character in the movie, runs from present capitalist society - it also examines his try to rule nature by using technology. Stiegler believes that technology is a part of human life. It also has a main role in how people become themselves. In the capitalist system, technology can turn into something that holds people captive instead of setting them free. Fox’s preoccupation with technology and his wish to manage nature match Stiegler’s thoughts about technology’s dual power, which both frees also controls. Fox flees the decay of present capitalist society, but his reliance on technology separates him from his family and from nature. Stiegler’s ideas of “technical individuation” as well as “symbolic poverty” help to clarify this development. The study shows the personal and group effects of the clash between technology plus nature - it also offers a philosophical way to see the problems of technology and capitalism in the current age. Fox’s sad end offers a clear case that backs Stiegler’s idea that technology has a dual character.
