İlk görüşmeler, psikolojik danışma sürecinin yapılandırılması ve ilk terapötik ilişkinin temellerinin atılması açısından kritik bir öneme sahiptir. Ancak ilk görüşmelerin kapsamlı biçimde yürütülmesi, özellikle aday psikolojik danışmanlar açısından birtakım avantajları ve çeşitli güçlükleri beraberinde getirebilmektedir. Bu bağlamda bu araştırmanın amacı, aday psikolojik danışmanların ilk görüşmeyi kapsamlı biçimde gerçekleştirme deneyimlerini derinlemesine incelemektir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden fenomenolojik desen kullanıldı. Psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik lisans programının 4. sınıfında öğrenim gören ve ilk görüşmelerini kapsamlı biçimde gerçekleştirmiş olan 10 aday psikolojik danışmanla yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler gerçekleştirildi. Veriler, verilerin yoğun olarak betimlendiği tümevarımsal tematik analiz yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edildi. Analiz sonucunda,3 ana tema belirlendi. Bunlar “psikolojik danışmana etkiler”, “danışana etkiler” ve “genel etkiler” di. Her bir tema olumlu ve olumsuz olmak üzere iki alt temadan oluştu. Bulgular, kapsamlı ilk görüşmelerin süreç, psikolojik danışman ve danışan açısından hem destekleyici hem de zorlayıcı yönler içerdiğini ortaya koydu. Psikolojik danışmanlar açısından bu süreç, mesleki yeterlilik algısını ve güven duygusunu desteklerken; performans kaygısı, zaman baskısı ve görüşmenin aşırı yapılandırılmasına bağlı zorlanmalara neden olabilmekteydi. Danışanlar açısından ise kapsamlı ilk görüşmeler, kendini açmayı ve problemleri bağlamı içinde görmeyi kolaylaştırılmaktaydı. Bununla birlikte görüşmenin uzunluğu, soru yoğunluğu ve pişmanlık gibi olumsuzlukları da beraberinde getirmektedir. Elde edilen bulgular, aday psikolojik danışmanların ilk görüşmeleri yapılandırırken bilgi toplama ve terapötik ilişki kurma süreçlerini dengeli biçimde yürütebilmelerine yönelik uygulamalı eğitimlere daha çok ihtiyaç duyduklarını gösterdi. Bununla birlikte, bu araştırma yalnızca aday psikolojik danışmanlarla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu durum araştırmanın bir sınırlılığını oluşturmaktadır. Gelecek araştırmalarda farklı mesleki deneyim düzeylerine sahip psikolojik danışmanların ilk görüşmeyi kapsamlı gerçekleştirme deneyimlerinin karşılaştırmalı olarak ele alınması alana katkı sağlayabilir.
First interviews are of critical importance in terms of structuring the psychological counselling process and laying the foundations for the initial therapeutic relationship. However, conducting first interviews comprehensively can bring certain advantages and various difficulties, particularly for trainee psychological counsellors. In this context, the aim of this study is to examine in depth the experiences of trainee counsellors in conducting comprehensive initial sessions. A phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 trainee counsellors studying in the 4th year of the counselling and guidance licentiate programme who had conducted comprehensive initial sessions. The data were analysed using an inductive thematic analysis method, which involves a dense description of the data. The analysis identified three main themes: ‘effects on the counsellor,’ ‘effects on the client,’ and ‘general effects.’ Each theme consisted of two sub-themes: positive and negative. The findings revealed that comprehensive initial interviews contained both supportive and challenging aspects in terms of the process, the psychological counsellor, and the counselee. For psychological counsellors, this process supported their perception of professional competence and sense of confidence; however, it could also cause difficulties related to performance anxiety, time pressure, and excessive structuring of the interview. For clients, comprehensive initial interviews facilitated self-disclosure and viewing problems within context. However, they also brought with them negative aspects such as the length of the interview, the intensity of questioning, and regret. The findings revealed that trainee counsellors need more practical training to balance the processes of gathering information and establishing a therapeutic relationship when structuring initial interviews. However, this research was conducted only with trainee counsellors. This constitutes a limitation of the study. Future research comparing the experiences of psychological counsellors with different levels of professional experience in conducting comprehensive initial interviews could contribute to the field.
