The term 'art of the new media' emerged in the 1960s and in the years following the coining of the term, designers and artists began to use many different computer programs for the production of commercial pieces or for more detailed and conceptual work such as; three-dimensional (3D) modeling programs, Illustrator or Photoshop, in an active interdisciplinary manner. Due to its ever-changing nature, graphic design has been shaped as an innovative and multidisciplinary branch. In the game industry, which has grown gradually, new employment areas have been created for the graduates of this field, suitable for their skills, art education and knowledge. In order to direct the said graduates to these fields, more studies should be done. In order to direct the graduates to these fields, it has been determined that there are a limited number of studies on the subject in the academic field, and this study is important in terms of contributing to the literature.
The Main Purpose of Study: The study is to argue that the growing game industry in Turkey and the growing employee needs of these game companies; created a good employment area for graphic designers. With the rising number of new graduates each year; this new sector will be a good place to direct them and to ensure that graduates have more information about this field.
Literature Review/Background: Graphic design is the process of recreating text and images on perceptible two-dimensional or three-dimensional planes with the help of technology in order to visualize the message and thought to be conveyed or to improve the existing visual. Developing technological trends create new employment areas in the field of graphic design.
Methods: The emergence and development processes of game companies are examined in chronological order, and the occupational branches that are frequently included in the companies are analyzed in detail. A literature review was made from the sources of employment in the game industry and the importance of creativity in the game industry. The content analysis method was adopted and the data were obtained.
Results: The results obtained from the research show that the game industry is growing gradually with new technological developments and changes and the employment areas in this field are expanding.
Conclusions: As a result of the research, it has been revealed that the new professions emerging in the field of game development in Turkey and the skills and knowledge required by these branches are directly proportional to the talents and knowledge of the graphic design students.
