Bibliometric Analysis of Research on The Sustainability of Agricultural Cooperatives

Öz

Cooperatives make significant contributions to sustainable development in economic, social and environmental dimensions. Cooperatives play a key role in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDG) set by the United Nations (UN) for 2030. The fact that 40% of the world's existing cooperatives and about half of the cooperative members are agricultural cooperatives clearly shows the importance of agricultural cooperatives in cooperatives. It is critical that agricultural cooperatives, which have a significant impact on the sustainability of agriculture, have a sustainable structure. The aim of this study is to present the literature on agricultural co-operatives and sustainability through bibliometric analysis. In the study, 1359 publications were accessed as a result of searching the Web of Science database using the keywords ‘Agriculture cooperatives’ and ‘Sustainable’ and the data were analyzed with VOSviewer software. The findings of the analyses show that there was a significant increase in the number of literature on sustainability and agricultural cooperatives published after 2019. It has been determined that there is a significant gap in the literature in Türkiye on the sustainability of agricultural cooperatives, which has a significant increase trend in the world. It has been determined that the researches show a strong relationship with the UN SDGs and especially focus on SDG 02 (Zero Hunger), SDG 15 (Life on Land) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). The majority of studies are concentrated in countries such as China, the United States, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom, where agricultural cooperatives are well-developed and widespread. In contrast, research in developing countries remains quite limited. The fact that most studies are conducted in countries with advanced agricultural cooperatives highlights the scientific knowledge gap and the underdeveloped state of agricultural cooperatives in developing regions. In this context, fostering international collaborations with institutions in developing countries could positively contribute to both scientific research and the progress of agricultural cooperatives in these areas. By identifying gaps in the literature on the sustainability of agricultural cooperatives and future research directions, this research will help policy makers to shape strategies in this area more effectively and will also guide academic studies in this field.

Tarımsal Kooperatiflerin Sürdürülebilirliği Konusunda Yapılan Araştırmaların Bibliyometrik Analizi

Öz

Kooperatifler ekonomik, sosyal ve çevresel boyutlarda sürdürülebilir kalkınmaya önemli katkılar sağlamaktadır. Birleşmiş Milletler (BM) tarafından 2030 yılına kadar gerçekleştirilmesi amaçlanan Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma Hedeflerine (SKH) ulaşılmasında da kooperatifler kilit rol oynamaktadır. Dünyada mevcut kooperatiflerin %40'ını ve kooperatif ortaklarının yaklaşık yarısını tarım kooperatiflerinin oluşturması, tarım kooperatiflerinin kooperatifçilikteki önemini açıkça göstermektedir. Tarımın sürdürülebilirliği üzerinde oldukça etkili olan tarım kooperatiflerinin de sürdürülebilir bir yapıya sahip olması kritik bir gerekliliktir. Bu çalışmanın amacı tarım kooperatifleri ve sürdürülebilirlik konusunda literatürün bibliyometrik analiz yöntemiyle ortaya konulmasıdır. Çalışmada, Web of Science veri tabanında “Agriculture cooperatives” ve “Sustainable” anahtar kelimeleri kullanılarak yapılan tarama sonucunda 1,359 yayına ulaşılmış ve veriler VOSviewer programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan analiz neticesinde elde edilen bulgular, sürdürülebilir tarım kooperatifleri konularında 2019 yılından sonra yayınlanan literatür sayısında önemli bir artış olduğunu göstermektedir. Dünyada önemli bir artış trendine sahip olan tarım kooperatiflerinin sürdürülebilirliği konusunda Türkiye literatüründe önemli bir boşluk bulunduğu belirlenmiştir. Yapılan araştırmaların BM SKH ile güçlü bir ilişki gösterdiği ve özellikle SKH 02 (Açlığa Son), SKH 15 (Karasal Yaşam) ve SKH 13 (İklim Eylemi) hedefleri üzerine yoğunlaştığı belirlenmiştir. Yapılan araştırmaların büyük çoğunluğu Çin, ABD, Almanya, İspanya ve İngiltere gibi tarım kooperatiflerinin yaygın ve gelişmiş olduğu ülkelerde yoğunlaşmaktadır. Buna karşılık, gelişmekte olan ülkelerde bu alandaki çalışmalar oldukça sınırlı düzeydedir. Araştırmaların daha çok tarım kooperatifçiliğinin geliştiği ülkelerde yapılmış olması, gelişmekte olan ülkelerdeki bilimsel bilgi eksikliğini ve tarımsal kooperatifleşmenin bu bölgelerde yeterince ilerlemediğini ortaya koymaktadır. Bu bağlamda, gelişmekte olan ülkelerdeki kurumlarla sağlanacak uluslararası iş birlikleri hem bu ülkelerdeki bilimsel çalışmaları hem de tarımsal kooperatifleşme süreçlerini olumlu yönde destekleyecektir. Yapılan araştırma, tarım kooperatiflerinin sürdürülebilirliği ile ilgili literatürdeki boşlukları ve gelecekteki araştırma yönlerini ortaya koyarak, politika yapıcıların bu alandaki stratejileri daha etkili bir şekilde şekillendirmelerine yardımcı olacak ve aynı zamanda bu alandaki akademik çalışmalara da yol gösterici olacaktır.
