Religion is a social phenomenon. In particular, religion's legitimation and instrumentalization power can be functional in many dimensions of religion-referenced movements. The socio-political context of these movements is not independent of the functionality of religion. In the study, Evangelicalism and Gulenism (Fetullah Terrorist Organization - FETÖ) were examined comparatively within the framework of a socio-political approach. In this sense, it has been determined that movements have similar tendencies in many dimensions. It has been understood that Evangelism and Gulenism have identical aspects and contents regarding socio-political preferences that differ from the religious tradition they refer. In the study, documentation, one of the qualitative method techniques, and a sociological and understanding point of view were used. In this context, only similar trends of the findings or data were focused on and these were tried to be revealed by comparative analysis. The study, “Evangelicalism and Gulenism in terms of which social policies tendencies contain similar features?” scrutinizes the problem. The conclusion reached is that Gulenism and Evangelicalism have similar tendencies of many aspects in the socio-political context. The main subject of the study is to reveal the similar trends of the movement in terms of establishment, stages of development, structuring, national and global scale social policies, goals, discourse, activities, and strategies.* This article is the revised and developed version of the unpublished conference presentation entitled “Comparison of Religion-Referenced Movements in Socio-Political Context: The Example of Evangelism and Gulenism (FETO)”, orally delivered at the 2nd Turkish Symposium of Social Sciences.
Din, toplumsal bir fenomendir. Özellikle dinin meşrulaştırma ve araçsallaştırma gücü, din referanslı hareketlerin birçok boyutunda işlevsel olabilmektedir. Bu hareketlerin sosyo-politik bağlamı da dinin fonksiyonelliğinden bağımsız değildir. Çalışmada, din referanslı hareketlerden olan Evanjelizm ve Gülenizm (Fetullahçı Terör Örgütü: FETÖ) sosyo-politik yaklaşım açısından incelenmiştir. Bu anlamda hareketlerin birçok boyutta benzer eğilimlere sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Evanjelizm ve Gülenizmin, referans aldıkları dinî gelenekten ayrışan sosyo-politik eğilimler açısından paralel yön ve ihtivalar taşıdıkları anlaşılmıştır. Çalışmada, nitel yöntem tekniklerinden biri olan dokümantasyondan, sosyolojik ve anlayıcı bir perspektifinden yararlanılmıştır. Bu çerçevede elde edilen bulguların veya verilerin salt benzer eğilimleri üzerine odaklanılmış ve bunlar karşılaştırmalı analizlerle ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışma, “Evanjelizm ve Gülenizm hangi sosyo-politik eğilimler açısından benzer özellikler içermektedir?” problematiğini irdelemektedir. Varılan sonuç, Gülenizm ve Evanjelizmin sosyo-politik bağlamda birçok açıdan benzer eğilimlere sahip olduğudur. Hareketlerin kuruluş, gelişim seyri, yapılanmaları, ulusal ve küresel ölçekli sosyo-politika, hedef, söylem, faaliyet ve stratejiler bakımından benzer eğilimlerini ortaya çıkarmak çalışmanın ana konusunu oluşturmaktadır.* Bu makale, 2.
