Distance Education in Pandemic: Health Services Vocational School Students’ Views and Suggestions

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to determine university students’ views and suggestions on the distance education model in the Covid-19 pandemic process.
Material and Methods: The descriptive research was performed in a Vocational School of Health Services in a state university. 1000 students who participated in the online survey application formed the sample of the study. The data were collected through the "Student' Views and Suggestions Questionnaire on the Distance Education Model". The data obtained were analyzed in SPSS 22.0. Descriptive statistical analysis was used in the analysis of the data.
Results: Only 21.3% of the students found the distance education model "effective". 85.6% of the students described the reduction of their financial expenses in the distance education process, 81.0% of them having unlimited access to the course materials, 70.5% as the reduction of the disease risk as the advantages of the distance education. 89.0% of the students stated that being unable to practice clinical practice is the most important disadvantage of the distance education. In order to improve the distance education process, 92.6% of the students suggested that the courses should be supported with more materials and 84.0% of them suggested that the consultancy systems should be actively carried out.
Conclusion: Nowadays, with the impact of both the Covid-19 pandemic and technological developments, the distance education applications independent of time and place have become widespread. Students are important stakeholder of the distance education applications. Determining the opinions and suggestions of the students regarding the current practices is a necessity for the effectiveness of the improvement studies.
