The use of thiazole derivative molecules as ionophores

Abstract

Thiazole is a heterocyclic ring found in many natural and synthetic compounds with diverse biological activities. Recently, thiazole derivatives have been explored as potential ionophores in potentiometric sensors for metal ion detection. Thiazole-based ion-selective electrodes developed for Lu(III), Cd(II), Cu(II), and Co(II) ions have shown wide linear ranges, low detection limits, fast response times, and broad pH working intervals. Although less commonly used than traditional ionophores, thiazole derivatives exhibit selective coordination abilities that enable effective sensor performance. These findings indicate that thiazole-based molecules hold significant promise for the development of advanced potentiometric sensing systems.
