Unemployment is one of the most fundamental problems of almost every developing and developed country. Based on the thesis that foreign trade will increase employment, countries implement different foreign trade policies in order to increase employment. The main reason for this is the expectation that the increase in exports will increase employment.This study aimed to reveal the effects of foreign trade on employment in the food and beverage sector in Turkey. In this research, the employment content method inspired by Leontief's input-output analysis was used. In the study, firstly, the general situation of the food and beverage industry in Turkey and the world was examined. Then, with the data obtained from the State Institute of Statistics, it was investigated how and in what direction exports and imports affected employment in Turkey between 2003 and 2020.In general, the effects of foreign trade on employment were positive in the examined period. The amount of employment affected by exports increased steadily between 2003 and 2006 and decreased in 2007. The stability achieved with the recovery in 2008 continued until 2015. There were employment declines in 2015 and 2016. There were significant increases in the amount of employment affected by exports in the 2017-2020 period.
İşsizlik gelişmekte olan ve gelişmiş hemen her ülkenin en temel problemlerinden biridir. Dış ticaretin istihdamı artıracağı tezinden hareketle ülkeler, istihdamı artırmak amacıyla farklı dış ticaret politikalarını hayatta geçirmektedir. Bunun temel nedeni ihracatta meydana gelen artışın istihdamı artıracağı yönündeki beklentidir. Bu çalışmayla dış ticaretin Türkiye’de yiyecek içecek sektöründe istihdam üzerindeki etkilerinin ortaya çıkarılması amaçlamıştır. Bu araştırmada Leontief’e ait girdi çıktı analizinden hareketle ortaya çıkarılmış istihdam içeriği yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada öncelikle Türkiye’de ve dünyada yiyecek ve içecek sektörünün genel durumu incelenmiştir. Daha sonra Devlet İstatistik Enstitüsü’nden elde edilen verilerle Türkiye’de 2003-2020 yılları arasında ihracat ve ithalatın istihdamı nasıl ve ne yönde etkilediği araştırılmıştır. Genel olarak incelenen dönemde dış ticaretin istihdam üzerindeki etkileri olumludur. 2003-2006 yılları arasında ihracattan etkilenen istihdam miktarı istikrarlı olarak artmış, 2007 yılında düşmüştür. 2008 yılında yaşanan toparlanmayla birlikte sağlanan istikrar 2015’e kadar sürmüştür. 2015 ile 2016’da istihdam düşüşleri yaşanmıştır. 2017-2020 döneminde ihracatın etkilediği istihdam miktarlarında belirgin artışlar görülmüştür.
