Kültür varlıklarının profesyonel aydınlatılması konusu başlı başına bir tasarım problemi iken kültür varlıklarının kentsel simge değeri olduğu durumlarda aydınlatma tasarımı çok daha ayrıcalıklı bir hal almaktadır. Tarihi kentlerde kentsel simgelerin aydınlatılması dünyada ve ülkemizde giderek yaygınlaşan bir uygulamadır. Bu uygulamaların profesyonel ve nitelikli tasarımlar olabilmesi için mimari, teknik, ekonomik ve ekolojik hassasiyetlere sahip olması gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada, öncelikle tarihi kent simgelerinin aydınlatılması konusu kentsel ölçekte ve tekil ölçekte ele alınmış ve uluslararası örnekler üzerinden değerlendirilmiştir. Kentsel simge aydınlatması ile ilgili aktarılan bilgilerle bir teorik altyapı oluşturulmuş ve bu bilgiler ışığında İstanbul’ kentinin simgesi olan Kızkulesi ile Mersin kentinin simgesi olan Kızkalesi arasında simgesel değerleri baz alınarak bir aydınlatma diyaloğu kurulmuştur. Kızkalesi’nin mevcut aydınlatmasının tarihi yapının kültür varlığı değerleriyle bağdaşmaması, bu diyaloğun kurulma ihtiyacının temel sebebidir. Bu noktada Kızkulesi’nin profesyonel ve nitelikli aydınlatması bu aydınlatma diyaloğunun öncüsü olarak kabul edilmiştir. Bu bağlamda Kızkalesi’nin geçmiş aydınlatma süreçleri de göz önünde bulundurularak mevcut aydınlatması eleştirel bir bakış açısıyla ele alınmış ve Kızkalesi’nin de nitelikli bir aydınlatmaya sahip olması gerekliliği vurgulanmıştır.
While the issue of illuminating cultural assets is a professional design problem in itself, the subject becomes much more privileged if the cultural assets to be illuminated are urban landmarks. The lighting of historical urban landmarks is an increasingly common practice in the world and in our country. In order for these applications to be professional and qualified designs, they must have architectural, technical, economic and ecological sensitivities. In this study, first of all, the subject of illuminating the historical city landmarks is discussed at the urban and singular building scale. Illuminating the historical city landmarks is evaluated on international examples. A theoretical infrastucture has been created with these information. In the light of this information, a lighting dialogue was established between the Maiden's Tower, which is the landmark of the city of Istanbul, and Maiden’s Castle, which is the landmark of the city of Mersin, based on its symbolic values. The fact that the existing lighting of Maiden’s Castle is incompatible with the cultural heritage values of the historical building is the main reason for the need for this dialogue. At this point, the professional and qualified lighting of the Maiden's Tower has been accepted as the pioneer of this lighting dialogue. In this context, considering the past lighting processes of Maiden’s Castle, the current lighting has been handled with a critical perspective and it has been emphasized that Maiden’s Castle should have a qualified lighting.
