National and international sources recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and continued breastfeeding for up to 24 months. Breastfeeding is many physical, psychological and emotional benefits for both mother and baby. Despite the increasing number of physically disabled mothers all over the world, there are still some barriers and lack of knowledge experienced by physically disabled mothers about breastfeeding. Mothers with physical disabilities face many problems such as lack of support, negative attitudes of health professionals and society about disability, and limited accessibility of adaptive parenting equipment (supporting breastfeeding equipment) in the postpartum period. For this reason, it is necessary to determine the factors that support and prevent the breastfeeding processes of mothers with physical disabilities in the postpartum period. In this review, the factors that support and prevent breastfeeding among mothers with physical disabilities are discussed in line with the determined headings. Factors supporting breastfeeding among mothers with physical disabilities: “Adaptation and Equipment”, “Use of Breast Pump”, “Receiving Physical Support”, “Receiving Peer Support”; factors preventing breastfeeding among mothers with physical disabilities: “Lack of Support”, “The Effect of Disability on Breastfeeding-Experiencing Health Problems”, “Lack of Information”, “Breast Milk Supply and Continuity”, “Health Professionals and Lactation Consultants”.The aim of this study is to examine the factors that support and prevent breastfeeding among mothers with physical disabilities in the postpartum period.
