Investigation of the Psychometric Properties of the Anti-Mattering Scale: An Adaptation Study
Abstract
This study aims to examine the psychometric properties of the Anti-Mattering Scale. The Anti-Mattering Scale was developed by Flett at al. (2022). The Anti-Mattering Scale (AMS) is a five-item scale that assesses feelings of anti-mattering to other people. Psychometric analyses of data obtained from an adolescent sample confirmed that the AMS contains a factor with high internal consistency and adequate validity. The scale was administered to 472 high school students. The one-dimensional model consisting of 5 items was found to be consistent in the confirmatory factor analysis. Internal consistency, item, and factor analysis studies were conducted to examine the psychometric properties of the scale. Reliability analyses revealed a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of .89 for the entire scale. Item-total correlations ranged from .69 to .79. Exploratory factor analysis showed a KMO sample adequacy coefficient of .87. The one-dimensional scale explained 70% of the variance. Confirmatory factor analysis results indicated that the one-dimensional model of the scale was suitable for the Turkish sample. In conclusion, the study determined that the scale is reliable and valid.
