The social and conceptual structure of recreation management research in a global perspective: A bibliometric analysis [2005-2024]
Abstract
This study was conducted to reveal the social and conceptual structures of recreation management research, as well as the citations made, from a global perspective. In line with the research objectives and the determined search strategies, analytical data from scientific articles focusing on the research topic of "recreation management" were downloaded from the WoS database using Fast 5000, RIS, and BibTex data files, resulting in access to 909 scientific articles. VOSviewer was used for testing and analyzing the Fast 5000 and RIS data files, while Bibliometrix R (RStudio) statistical analysis program was used for testing and analyzing the BibTex data file. As a result of the tests and analyses conducted to reveal the social structures of recreation management research (articles) from a global perspective; Newman, P., Utah State University and the United States of America; Van Oudenhoven, A.P.E., University of California Berkeley and the United States of America; citation; Newman, P., US Forest Service and the United States of America; scientific collaboration/link; Newman, P., Utah State University and the United States were found to be leading in terms of total link strength values. Tests and analyses conducted to reveal citations to recreation management research (articles) from a global perspective revealed that Nicholson et al. [2005]'s article published in the Journal of Risk Studies ranked first with 599 citations. Tests and analyses conducted to reveal the conceptual structures of recreation management research (articles) from a global perspective revealed that the keywords "management", "recreation" and "impacts" ranked in the top three in terms of usage/repetition, scientific collaboration/link count, and total link strength values, respectively. Furthermore, it was determined that the keywords "management", "recreation" and "work" ranked in the top three in terms of usage/repetition in the abstracts of the relevant articles, while "management", "recreation" and "forest" ranked in the top three in terms of usage/repetition in the titles.
