After the declaration of the Second Constitutional Era, journalists, writers, artists working in various fields, and literate groups in the Turkish press, who emerged from the relatively oppressive environment of the reign of Abdulhamid II, began to publish newspapers and magazines one after another.Among these publications, many of which could not go beyond one or a few issues, there were also long-running, important magazines representing Turkish literature and the Turkish press during the Second Constitutional Era. One of these was Resimli Kitap, which published 51 issues from September 1908 to February 1913. In this study, the fact that Resimli Kitap began publishing immediately after the declaration of the Second Constitutional Era, and their opposition to the pre-constitutional era and the sultan of the period, Abdulhamid II, will be discussed, as will their expectations from the new era and their views on the extent to which they were able to satisfy these expectations. The first year of Resimli Kitap, which was published monthly with quite voluminous issues, will be examined. Indeed, the liberal identity of the Second Constitutional Era in political, literary, and social fields weakened and disappeared after its first year, as evidenced in the press and the discourses of prominent figures of the period. The constitutional monarchy, awaited with great hope, gave way to a repressive regime after granting unchecked freedom in matters of art and politics. This section will evaluate the expectations of the magazine staff regarding freedom during the first year, and the tasks that literature was expected to fulfill in this new era. In this first year, when the excitement of the Second Constitutional Era was at its highest, criticisms will be drawn that the magazine's expectations from literature have not yet been sufficiently met. In particular, the literary conversation columns will focus on the desire to return to a more realistic and patriotic literature with the Second Constitutional Era. On the other hand, articles on women writers, views on domestic and foreign theater theory, language issues, and texts with various titles such as the structure of the press will be seen in the Resimli Kitap.
II. Meşrutiyet’in ilanından sonra Türk basınında II. Abdülhamid döneminin görece baskı ortamından çıkan gazeteciler, edebiyatçılar, çeşitli sahalarda faaliyet yürüten sanatçılar, okur-yazar zümreler ardı ardına gazete ve dergi çıkarmaya başlamışlardır. Pek çoğu bir ya da birkaç sayıdan öteye gidemeyen bu yayınlar arasında uzun soluklu çıkan, II. Meşrutiyet dönemi Türk edebiyatını ve Türk basınını temsil eden önemli dergiler de olmuştur. Bunlardan biri de 1908 yılı Eylül ayından 1913 yılı Şubat ayına kadar 51 sayı çıkan Resimli Kitap dergisidir. Bu çalışmada, Resimli Kitap dergisinin II. Meşrutiyet’in ilanının hemen arkasından çıkmaya başlaması, Meşrutiyet öncesi döneme ve dönemin padişahı II. Abdülhamid’e muhalefeti dolayısıyla yeni dönemden beklentilerini ve bunları ne derece tatmin edebildiklerine dair görüşleri ele alınacaktır. Bu çalışmada aylık olarak epey hacimli sayılarla çıkan Resimli Kitap’ın ilk bir yılı incelenecektir. Zira II. Meşrutiyet’in politik, edebî ve sosyal sahalardaki özgürlükçü kimliğinin birinci yılından sonra zayıflayarak kaybolduğu dönemin matbuatında ve önemli isimlerinin söylemlerinde görülmektedir. Büyük umutlarla beklenen meşrutiyet, sanat ve siyaset meselelerine tanıdığı kontrolsüz özgürlükten sonra yerini yeniden baskı rejimine bırakmıştır. Burada ilk bir yıllık süre içerisinde dergi kadrolarının hürriyetten beklentisi, edebiyatın yeni dönemde yerine getirmesi istenen görevleri değerlendirilecektir. II. Meşrutiyet’in ilanıyla basın hürriyetine yönelik heyecanın en yüksek seviyede olduğu bu ilk yılda, edebiyatın istenen verimi ortaya koyamadığı eleştirileri ortaya çıkacaktır. Özellikle edebiyat sohbetleri sütunlarında II. Meşrutiyet’le birlikte daha gerçekçi, vatanperver bir edebiyata dönmek gerektiği arzusu üzerinde durulacaktır. Öte yandan Resimli Kitap’ta kadın edebiyatçılara dair yazılar, yerli ve yabancı tiyatro teorisine dair görüşler, dil meseleleri, matbuatın yapısı gibi çeşitli başlıklarda metinler görülecektir.
