The importance of monitoring land use/land cover changes for assessment of sediment yield impacts: A multi-criteria decision making approach in a subbasin
Abstract
In this study, the Sentinel-2 land use land cover data between 2017 and 2022 were utilized in the evaluation of land use changes in the drainage area of Çakıt observation station in the Seyhan River Basin using the entropy method. The entropy method was employed to address the issue of criterion weighting in the context of land use/land cover changes. A total of seven criteria weights were identified, with values of 0.1604, 0.0020, 0.0106, 0.0158, 0.0373, 0.7730, and 0.0008 being attributed to water, trees, crops, built area, bare ground, snow/ice, and rangeland, respectively. The present study utilised the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) methods to address the issue under consideration. Snow/ice areas had the highest criterion weight, as shown by evaluating the land use data between 2017 and 2022. A ranking was constructed to determine the impact of land use on reducing sediment transport. The results of the SAW and TOPSIS methodologies indicated that the land use status, as of 2017, was ranked first.
