The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between exercise addiction and drive for muscularity among individuals who engage in regular exercise and to determine how these variables are associated with age and exercise age, as well as how they differ according to gender and marital status. The research was conducted using a survey model with a correlational design. The sample of the study consisted of 384 individuals (219 men and 165 women) who regularly exercised in fitness centers operating in the province of Çanakkale. Data were collec-ted using the Exercise Addiction Scale, the Drive for Muscularity Scale, and a form developed by the researcher. Pearson and Spearman correlation analyses and independent samples t-tests were applied for data analysis. The findings indicated a positive and statistically significant relationship between exercise addiction and drive for muscularity (r = 0.362, p < 0.01). Negative relationships were found between age and exercise addiction (r = −0.141, p < 0.01) and between age and drive for muscularity (r = −0.280, p < 0.01). While a positive relations-hip was identified between exercise age and exercise addiction (r = 0.157, p < 0.01), no statistically significant relationship was found between exercise age and drive for muscularity. Exercise addiction did not differ accor-ding to gender; however, drive for muscularity was higher among men (t = 5.994, p < 0.001). In terms of mari-tal status, drive for muscularity was found to be higher among single participants (t = −4.448, p < 0.001). Ove-rall, the results reveal that exercise addiction and drive for muscularity constitute interrelated constructs that should be considered together among individuals exercising in fitness centers and that are sensitive to age and individual characteristics.
</trans-abstract>
