This study aimed to comparatively examine the views of teachers, parents, students and school administrators on the teachers’ professional image. The causal-comparative design was used in the study. The sample consisted of 56 school administrators, 298 teachers, 530 students and 317 parents of students from high schools in Izmit district of Kocaeli province. The data were collected through the Professional Image Scale developed by Ünsal (2015). Descriptive statistics and one-way analysis of variance were used to determine the differences between groups, and Scheffe test was used to determine the direction of the differences. The results of the study show that parents have the highest perception of the teaching profession’s image. After the parent group, the student and school administrator groups follow, respectively. The lowest perception of the teaching profession’s image is held by the teacher group. When the differences between the groups regarding the image of the teaching profession and its sub-dimensions were examined, significant differences were found between the groups’ perceptions of the teaching profession and its sub-dimensions. Based on the findings of the study, strategic suggestions for strengthening teachers' professional image and recommendations for researchers were presented.
Bu araştırmada, öğretmenlik mesleği imajına yönelik öğretmen, veli, öğrenci ve yönetici görüşlerinin karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Nedensel karşılaştırma modelinde desenlenen araştırmanın örneklemini, Kocaeli ili İzmit ilçesindeki orta öğretim kurumlarından 56 yönetici, 298 öğretmen, 530 öğrenci ve 317 öğrenci velisi oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın verileri Ünsal (2015) tarafından geliştirilen Öğretmenlik Mesleği İmaj Ölçeği aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistiklerin yanı sıra, gruplar arasındaki farkların belirlenmesi amacıyla tek yönlü varyans analizi, farkların yönünü belirlemek içinse Scheffe testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları, öğretmenlik mesleğine yönelik en yüksek imaj algısına velilerin sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Veli grubundan sonra sırasıyla, öğrenci ve yönetici grupları gelmektedir. Öğretmenlik mesleğine yönelik en düşük imaj algısına ise öğretmen grubu sahiptir. Öğretmenlik mesleği imajı ve alt boyutlarına yönelik gruplar arası farklar incelendiğinde, grupların öğretmenlik mesleğine yönelik imaj algıları ve öğretmenlik mesleği imajının alt boyutlarına yönelik algıları arasında anlamlı farklılıkların olduğu bulunmuştur. Araştırma bulgularına dayalı olarak, öğretmenlerin mesleki imajlarını güçlendirmeye yönelik stratejik önerilerle birlikte araştırmacılara öneriler sunulmuştur.
