Öz

With the
globalization trend intensified in the 1980s, developing countries began to
look attractive to capital investments and foreign direct investments.
Developing countries have had the opportunity to learn and use
information-intensive elements such as technology, R&D and direct
investments from outside. The investments made increase the production level by
adding resources that are left idle due to technology inadequacy in the
country. Developing countries expect to gain significant advantages in terms of
sustainable growth with these investments. While advocating positive aspects
such as the support of foreign direct investment for growth in terms of
developing countries, there are also views that favor negative aspects such as
the exploitation of cheap resources or unemployment. In this study, the effect
of foreign direct investment on growth and employment are investigated for the
year 1988-2016 for Turkey. According to Toda-Yamamoto test results, direct
foreign investments in Turkey have not been found to have causality
relationship with national income and unemployment.

DOĞRUDAN YABANCI YATIRIMLARIN EKONOMİK BÜYÜME VE İŞSİZLİK ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİ / Effect On Direct Foreign Investments On Economic Growth And Unemployment

Öz

1980’lerde yoğunlaşan
küreselleşme akımıyla gelişmekte olan ülkeler, sermaye yatırımları ve doğrudan
yabancı yatırımlara cazip bakmaya başlamışlardır. Gelişmekte olan ülkeler,
dışardan aldıkları doğrudan yatırımlarla birlikte teknoloji, Ar-Ge gibi bilgi
yoğun unsurları öğrenme ve kullanma fırsatı yakalamıştır. Yapılan yatırımlar
ülkede teknoloji yetersizliği nedeniyle atıl kalan kaynakları üretime katarak
üretim düzeyini artırmaktadır. Gelişmekte olan ülkeler bu yatırımlarla
sürdürülebilir büyüme açısından önemli avantajlar elde etmeyi beklemektedir. Gelişmekte
olan ülkeler açısından doğrudan yabancı yatırımların büyümeye destek olması
gibi olumlu yanları savunulurken, ucuz kaynakların sömürülmesi ya da işsizliğe
sebep olması gibi olumsuz yanlarını da savunan görüşler de mevcuttur.  Bu çalışmada Türkiye için 1988-2016 dönemine
ait yıllık verilerle doğrudan yabancı yatırımların büyüme ve istihdama olan
etkisi araştırılmıştır. Toda-Yamamoto
test sonuçlarına göre, Türkiye’de doğrudan yabancı yatırımların
milli gelir ve işsizlikle nedensellik ilişkisi bulunamamıştır.
