<p>This study aims to reduce delays and vehicle queues at a signalized intersection during peak hours through the optimization of traffic signal timings. The study area was selected as a major intersection experiencing high traffic volumes, particularly between 14:00 and 15:00. The existing traffic system was systematically analyzed, and data including vehicle counts, travel times, and traffic densities were collected to develop a simulation-based model. Using Arena software, the effects of different signal timing scenarios on system performance were evaluated in terms of vehicle waiting times and queue lengths. Analyses indicated that Beta distribution was appropriate for modeling traffic flow on roads 1 and 3, while normal distribution was suitable for road 2. Under the optimal scenario, the average waiting time decreased by 43.88%, and the number of vehicles in the queue was reduced by 53.63%. These results are consistent with improvements reported in similar studies in the literature. The study contributes to the academic knowledge base and provides practical strategies for traffic management at the intersection level, offering insights that can be applied to comparable urban traffic conditions.</p></trans-abstract>
