Ramon Carbó-Dorca was born in Girona (Catalonia) Spain, in 1940. Studied Chemical Engineering at the IQS in Barcelona and earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the IQS in Barcelona in 1965 and a PhD in Chemistry at the UAB in 1970, under the advice of Prof. S. Fraga. He has been visiting Professor at the CMOA Paris (France), U. of Pisa (Italy), U.’s of Alberta and Saskatchewan (Canada), U. of Tromsø (Norway), U. of Tokyo (Japan), U. of Hyderabad (India), U. of Petroleum (Beijing), Riken at Kobe (Japan), U T P Loja (Ecuador).
His first paper, a Quantum Chemical study of Adsorption in 1965, was also the first study published by a Catalan chemist in the field. Later, he introduced the concept of Quantum Similarity in a seminal 1980 paper, developing its theoretical and computational basis. He has been active in the SCF computational aspects. He has published more than 420 papers and 20 books dealing with Quantum and Computational Chemistry, Quantum Mechanics, Quantum QSAR, Quantum Similarity, Mathematical Methods Applied to Chemistry and Popular Science.
Since 1965 he has been Professor at the IQS and UAB in Barcelona. Since 1995 he was Professor at the U of Girona (UdG), where he founded the Institute of Computational Chemistry. From 2004 up to 2007 he was appointed as Visiting Professor at the U. Ghent (Belgium). Since 2010 he is Emeritus Professor of the U of Girona.
Note that his original family name: Carbó, was changed in 1996 to Carbó-Dorca.
