Extracolonic Findings on CT Colonography

Year 2016, Volume: 1 Issue: 2, 65 - 70, 01.03.2017

Abstract

Aim

The purpose of this study was to assess the incidence and clinical significance of extracolonic findings in the screening population undergoing computed tomography (CT) colonography.

Material and Methods

A total of 52 patients (24 females, 28 males) have been included in this study. CT colonography has been performed 1 or 2 days after optic colonoscopy. Patient history and the results of optic colonoscopy have never been informed to the radiologist. Extracolonic findings were classified as

normal, minor, moderate and major by CT colonography reporting and data system.

Results

A total of 75 extracolonic findings have been recorded and 75% of patients (39/52) had at least one extracolonic finding. Nineteen patients (36.5%) had more than one extracolonic findings. In total, 59 (59/75= 79%) minor, 7 (7/75= 9%) moderate and 9 (9/75= 12%) major extracolonic findings were found. Four of 11 colorectal cancer patients had moderate findings and 7 of colorectal cancer patients had major findings. Extracolonic significant findings were mostly seen in patients with colorectal cancer.

Conclusion

The evaluation of extracolonic findings on CT colonography with using intravenous contrast material in colorectal cancer patients is critical because important extracolonic findings of this patient can be effect his/her survey.

BT Kolonografide Ekstrakolonik Bulgular

Year 2016, Volume: 1 Issue: 2, 65 - 70, 01.03.2017
