Nursing Emotional Habitus Concept Analysis

Year 2024, Issue: 8, 51 - 59, 29.04.2024
https://doi.org/10.58252/artukluhealth.1475150

Abstract

Introduction: It is aimed to analyze the concept by examining the structure, meaning and function of the concept of nursing emotional habitus and to create its conceptual definition.
Methods: Walker and Avant’s well-established method of concept analysis was employed to clarify of the concept of nursing emotional habitus.
Results: In order to gain a professional nursing identity and to provide holistic caring by meeting the emotional needs of the patient, basic ethical values, caring ethics and rules of feeling should be internalized. Patient nurses should be empathetic in communication, be aware of both their own and patients' feelings, understand verbal and non-verbal communication messages, evaluate when emotions can be expressed, and know how to express emotions appropriately by regulating the expression of emotions. Emotions emerging from patient nurse interaction should be managed effectively. Emotional capital gained through education should be converted into emotional labor as a habit, identity, tendency, and predisposition, without much conscious thought.
Conclusion: It has been determined that the characteristics of nursing emotional habitus (such as ethical values, effective communication skills) can be internalized through training. Along with this internalization, emotional labour will emerge in nursing services as a habit, identity, temperament, tendency, predisposition, lifestyle. Qualitative research methods such as observation and interviews are used to understand the nursing emotional habitus.

Hemşirelik Duygusal Habitusu Kavram Analizi

Year 2024, Issue: 8, 51 - 59, 29.04.2024
https://doi.org/10.58252/artukluhealth.1475150
